Secular Country

In our school we studied that India is a secular country. Religion is one of the basic institutions of any society. It is a universal system which is found in every society. Religion can be understood as a social system in which there is common faith, worship, rituals, customs and traditions. The Indian constitution grants religious freedom to its citizens. Whether it is Hindu, Muslim, Christian it doesn’t matter. But today all these are turning in to a myth.

Earlier this month, more than 50 impoverished Muslim families in a slum in the northern Indian city of Agra attended a simple but controversial ceremony at which they were asked by a Hindu priest to chant and throw offerings into the holy fire in front of some Hindu idols. The priest then welcomed the Muslims into the Hindu fold.

Religion was always a weapon for many anti socialists to attack Indian society from the day of partition. Unfortunately it still goes on. No religion has said other is bad. Everything comes from an ultimate power but with different names and shapes. We should be ashamed to waste our time for these issues when there are lot other issues  that needs attention like poverty, education etc. Religious conversion have sparked a lot of attention and has caused hostilities in Indian families. Here also the poor section of the society is affected by this.India is not only for Hindus, it is for everyone no matter what religion they are from.

An “Excellent” education?

What is an excellent education? Are we getting an excellent education in India? For you and me, yes. But for the rest more than fifty percent of children in India? Just think about it. An excellent education should bring out the creativity in students. Because today’s world needs people who are creative. Today when searching an employee an organization doesn’t bothers about how much marks one scored in academics, but they are searching people who could make a change in the organization. So ultimately creative people are given more importance than who carry a good academic results. It is important to think outside the box. But today schools and most of the educational institutions are trying to kill the creativity in students.

The greatest gift that you can give to any other person is to give education. Educated people like students, employees should share part of  their knowledge acquired over the years coupled with an aim of promoting creative and out of the box thinking there by making way for these people in order to enter into an arena of this kind of vision.

Just imagine a student in class 5 is not able to read a class 2 level text, the first thought popped into my mind is how did he/she reach class 5? I also figured an answer, there is no foundation for the education provided to the children. Our education system is turned out into a business nowadays. There is no quality in the education at least in the rural parts of India. Without proper assessment teachers make the student pass into higher classes. So when a student reach higher classes they lack proper basics. So to prevent this, education should be provided to the students which make a strong foundation in the lower classes itself. This can be done in various ways like using modern technology to teach them, using pictorial and audio representations, conducting activities and competitions etc. Understanding a student and the capabilities capabilities is also important while teaching because each student will have different wavelength, in case a student cannot reach up to the mark they should be given more attention. So instead of preaching and blaming government and others for the plight of education in India, all of us should do something to make a change. luckily there are more and more resources available to make this come true.
